Bhikkhu Pāsādika (secular name: Eckhard Bangert), born August 17, 1939 in Bad Arolsen in Hesse, is a German historian and Buddhist master. His Dharma or religious name Pāsādika is a Pali word meaning "kind". He entered the Buddhist order of the Theravada tradition (Old School) in Thailand. He is a member of the Buddhist Research Institute Linh-Son in Joinville-le-Pont of France. ==Biography==
A polyglot, he speaks German, English, French, Sanskrit, Pali, Hindi, Chinese, Tibetan, and Thai. Having its master in Pali to Magadh University of Bodh Gaya, he obtained his PhD in Buddhist Studies on Vimalakīrtinirdeśa at the Punjabi University, Patiala, India. Pasakida was a lecturer in History of Religions at the University of Bergen from 1970 to 1975. In 1975 he was appointed professor of history and religion at the University of Oslo. He became a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in 1976. He is a professor at the Faculty of Languages and non-European cultures at the University of Marburg in Germany. Pasakida also lectures on Buddhism in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Kassel. Pasakida specializes in the history and literature of the Bön religion of Tibet.
